![]() Some sources claim that to gain access to the hotel roof, Elisa would have needed to break into areas of the Cecil that were off-limits to hotel guests. ![]() Lam's death was heartbreaking and unusual, but she's not the only tragedy the hotel has seen. However, the question remains as to how Elisa ended up in the water tank at all. Netflix's new series ,'Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel,' examines one of these deaths, which involved Canadian college student Elisa Lam, whose body was later found in one of the hotel's water tanks. End of SPOILERS Overall, I recommend Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel for its important commentary on mental illness. While her mental illness likely had something to do with her death, nobody knows how she was able to access the rooftop without setting off an alarm and without a key, climb up an eight-foot water tank, open the water tank door, and fall in, all completely undetected and without using a ladder. LA authorities did indeed officially rule Elisa’s death as an accidental drowning due to a manic episode. Elisa died near the Skid Row area in Los Angeles, so there was also commentary about the issues surrounding poverty, chronic homelessness, and the mental health needs of that community. Given the elevator footage and the toxicology reports, most evidence pointed towards Elisa suffering a psychotic break and losing control of herself. She then moved to a single occupancy room. But in the days before her death, her roommates said that Elisa displayed some odd behavior. Lam suffered from bipolar I disorder, a very serious and very misunderstood mental illness. ![]() ![]() Further Evidenceĭuring the investigation into Elisa’s death, the Cecil Hotel manager reported that she initially stayed in a multi-person room with several others to save on costs. We’d rather think a hotel murdered Lam than spend a moment trying to understand her mental illness. The series brings to light the tragic death of a young Canadian mental health advocate and profilic blogger, Elisa Lam. Manic episodes can involve extreme bouts of paranoia, delusions, and hallucinations. When taken alone without antipsychotic drugs to counterbalance the effects, antidepressants can bring on manic episodes in those who have bipolar disorder. In the ensuing drama, a young woman’s solitary battle with mental illness was drowned out and the stigma just grew bolder. ![]() ![]() ![]() The DLC adds new vehicles, such as landing craft and patrol boats, and adds new water craft. On harder difficulties, the player will need to flank, communicate, attack and defend simultaneously to counteract the enemy forces. There were but two requirements: the applicant had to be alive at the time of application (no posthumous awards were permitted) and he had to prove that he had received a wound that necessitated treatment by a medical officer." Army personnel might apply for the new medal. This is because the original regulations governing the award of the Purple Heart, published by the Army in 1932, provided that any soldier who had been wounded in any conflict involving U.S. Army wounded from conflicts prior to the First World War applied for, and were awarded, the Purple Heart: ".veterans of the Civil War and Indian Wars, as well as the Spanish–American War, China Relief Expedition ( Boxer Rebellion), and Philippine Insurrection also were awarded the Purple Heart. By Executive Order 9277, dated 3 December 1942, the decoration was applied to all services the order required reasonable uniform application of the regulations for each of the Services. With the establishment of the Legion of Merit, by an Act of Congress, the practice of awarding the Purple Heart for meritorious service was discontinued. During the early period of American involvement in World War II (8 December 1941 – 22 September 1943), the Purple Heart was awarded both for wounds received in action against the enemy and for meritorious performance of duty. The first Purple Heart was awarded to MacArthur. The criteria were announced in a War Department circular dated 22 February 1932, and authorized award to soldiers, upon their request, who had been awarded the Meritorious Service Citation Certificate, Army Wound Ribbon, or were authorized to wear Wound Chevrons subsequent to 5 April 1917, the day before the United States entered World War I. By Executive Order of the President of the United States, the Purple Heart was revived on the 200th Anniversary of George Washington's birth, out of respect to his memory and military achievements, by War Department General Order No. Sinnock of the Philadelphia Mint in May 1931. The Commission of Fine Arts solicited plaster models from three leading sculptors for the medal, selecting that of John R. Purple Heart Memorial, Westland, Michigan The new design, which exhibits a bust and profile of George Washington, was issued on the bicentennial of Washington's birth. Using general specifications provided to her, Will created the design sketch for the present medal of the Purple Heart. Elizabeth Will, an Army heraldic specialist in the Office of the Quartermaster General, was named to redesign the newly revived medal, which became known as the Purple Heart. On 7 January 1931, Summerall's successor, General Douglas MacArthur, confidentially reopened work on a new design, involving the Washington Commission of Fine Arts. A number of private interests sought to have the medal re-instituted in the Army this included the board of directors of the Fort Ticonderoga Museum in Ticonderoga, New York. The bill was withdrawn and action on the case ceased on 3 January 1928, but the office of the Adjutant General was instructed to file all materials collected for possible future use. On 10 October 1927, Army Chief of Staff General Charles Pelot Summerall directed that a draft bill be sent to Congress "to revive the Badge of Military Merit". Although never abolished, the award of the badge was not proposed again officially until after World War I. Washington authorized his subordinate officers to issue Badges of Merit as appropriate. The Badge of Military Merit was only awarded to three Revolutionary War soldiers by Washington himself. You may see these products labeled as luxury vinyl plank flooring (LVP), but installing it isn’t any more difficult than it is for other vinyl flooring products. Higher quality, more expensive flooring is thicker, has built-in underlayments and moisture barriers underneath, and utilizes interlocking tongue-and-groove systems. Less expensive options might be thin, or peel-and-stick (still, today’s peel-and-sticks are better than the tiles of old). Generally speaking, the more vinyl plank flooring quality costs, the better the quality it is. It ranges in price from under a dollar to up to $5 per square foot.
